In a letter to the editor of the Boston Globe, David Aronstein, BACH Director, writes about the lack of access to affordable, healthy foods for many of Boston’s residents, and specifically comments on the farmers market in the Codman Square neighborhood. He writes, “in Dorchester’s Codman Square, the neighborhood association and its BOLD Teens organization operate a weekly farmers’ market. It not only gives residents access to fresh vegetables and fruits, but also provides an opportunity for teens to learn job skills and learn more about proper nutrition. In addition, at farmers’ markets the Bounty Bucks program increases the value of food stamp benefits for those on limited incomes.”
