BACH Steering Committee Application

Boston Alliance for Community Health (BACH) is a diverse citywide partnership working to improve the health of Boston’s most vulnerable populations by addressing social determinants of health and achieving racial and ethnic health equity. We do this by aligning the efforts of government, organizations, and residents through data-driven planning, influencing policy-making, community engagement, and resource allocations in order to achieve the greatest collective impact.

Position Description

The position of Steering Committee Member will support the work of BACH and provide mission-based leadership, strategic governance and organizational oversight. While day-to-day operations are led by BACH’s Director and staff support, as a Steering Committee Member you will be expected to maintain a close and trusted relationship with the Director. This partnership is critical to the success of BACH. Additional Steering Committee Member responsibilities include:

  • Representing BACH at stakeholder meetings and acting as an ambassador for the organization
  • Evaluating BACH’s impact through varied assessment tools
  • Attending scheduled Steering Committee meetings and reviewing agenda items/supporting materials in advance
  • Serving on committees or task forces and taking on special assignments when needed
  • Making fiscal decisions, including approving BACH’s annual budget
  • Contributing to an annual performance evaluation of the Director
  • Assisting in the recruitment of new Steering Committee Members, other committee and work group members, additional organizational partners, and staff that reflect the communities of Boston that BACH serves
  • Ensuring that Steering Committee decisions are carried out
Terms of Engagement
BACH’s Steering Committee Members serve a three-year term to be eligible for re-appointment for one additional term. Steering Committee meetings are to be held at least bi-monthly and committee meetings are held in accordance with need.

Qualifications
This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about BACH’s mission and strategic priorities, and who has a track record of organizational and/or community leadership. Selected Steering Committee members will have experience working in community health, organizing, and development and in the not for-profit sector. Candidates must have the following qualifications:

  • Above the age of 16
  • Live or work in Boston
  • Leadership experience (ex. with a community group or working on or with a Board of Directors)
  • Understanding of racism, social determinants of health and health inequities
  • Ability to commit to 4-6 hours a month of BACH related work including attending Steering Committee meetings regularly
  • Flexibility to attend day or evening meetings
  • Service on BACH’s Steering Committee is voluntary.
