"When you add us all up, BACH's membership is in the thousands. Some of us are from the neighborhood and some of us are from an organization. We may not always agree on everything, but in the end, we all want the same thing: safe and healthy communities."

The Social Resilience Model Workshop

Building and supporting communities that cultivate the best for all residents is a worthy goal. Its urgency and relevance are increasingly clear, particularly in communities facing the daily challenges of violence, addiction, poverty, and pervasive racism, among other community issues. Resilient communities are those that are creative and productive during times of relative stability and are capable of rebounding, adapting, and even growing in response to community trauma. Resilient communities enhance well-being and promote action that is inclusive, opportunistic, collaborative, compassionate, and empathic. These actions result in healthier communities and a stronger commitment to the greater good.

This 2-hour workshop features a practical model for building community resilience that is designed to serve as a constructive addition to your community toolbox of effective interventions that make a difference in the lives of individuals and communities. Drawing upon the contributions of neuroscience, the workshop will include:

  1. an overview of The Social Resilience Model (SRM) and its contribution in building sustainable capacity for resilience community-wide
  2. a description of the structure of SRM in a large California county
  3. a description of key SRM components, including its eight skills for developing self-regulation and optimal functioning in individuals and groups
  4. the opportunity to engage with participants in identifying potential applications of the SRM for addressing the specific needs and strengths of the Boston community.
