The East Boston Coalition in collaboration with the East Boston Collaborative for Families planned a successful visioning session held on Thursday, January 3 at the Mario Umana Academy in EB. Over 90 people were asked to discuss and create a vision for a healthier neighborhood. Many of the participants were students from the Adult Education program. Sessions were conducted in both Spanish and English. Participants also shared their responses in both languages. The evening generated valuable discussion about things that residents don’t normally speak about such as living conditions, day care hours, better paying jobs, absentee landlords, healthy foods, transportation, and stress. The coalition has crafted a draft version of the vision statement from the comments and are submitting it back to participants for feedback. They are hoping to have a completed statement soon.
